We are Monika and Sæmundur (a.k.a. Saemi or Sy), an Icelandic couple who love cycling, travel and adventure. Growing up we practiced very different kinds of sports as Monika played badminton but later became a long-distance runner but Saemi played basketball and therefore was much less of an endurance athlete. When we met we struggled to find the right sport to enjoy together but that all changed when we discovered cycling about 4 years ago.
Since then we have participated in multiple races, including WOW Cyclothon which is a 10 person relay race around Iceland (1358 km) and ridden in the remote Icelandic highlands.
Monika is a psychologist and an eternal optimistic. There is no “can’t” in her vocabulary and she is the reason we didn’t abandoned our idea of riding across the US once we realized how huge this undertaking would be.
Saemi is a computer engineer and a CEO of a small technology firm. He is the bike mechanic and social media geek of the family and an obsessive compulsive planner. Without Trello and Google Sheets, planning the Trans America ride would have driven him mad with worries.
